Drug dealing duo who were caught red handed in Aberdare town centre
A drug dealing duo who were caught red handed in #Aberdare town centre with heroin and cash were jailed recently.
Jonathan Hayton, 41, of Erw Las, Penywaun, and Matthew Read, 42, of no fixed abode, appeared at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court for sentencing and they were jailed for a total of nine years and four months.
They were stopped and searched by officers from the Op Sceptre team in Aberdare Town Centre on December 1st after speeding off from officers in a black BMW. Heroin and cash were seized and they were taken into custody.
Op Sceptre teams were set up by South Wales Police to tackle organised crime and drug dealing.
During a search at the police station, Hayton was also found to be concealing heroin and a mobile phone in his underpants.
Police also searched two properties linked to both men and found thousands of pounds in cash.
Forensic analysis carried out on their mobile phones uncovered messages clearly linked to drug dealing.
In total, 58 wraps of heroin and over £2000 in cash was seized.
Matthew Read pleaded guilty to possessing heroin with intent to supply and also being concerned in the supply of heroin. He was jailed for six years.
Jonathan Hayton pleaded guilty to possessing Heroin with intent to supply and was jailed for three years and four months.
Detective Sergeant Gareth Jenkins, said: "The two men panicked when they saw us and sped away. Within an hour they had returned but we were waiting for them and made our move. These men were literally pedalling misery on the streets of Aberdare. Unimaginable suffering is being caused by addiction, and they are fuelling it for their own personal gain – for that they belong in prison.”
