Proposed Senior Management restructure agreed by RCTC Cabinet
Is it also time to cut the number of local councillors in Rhondda Cynon Taf?
A proposed restructure of senior management considered by Cabinet today would reduce current senior management costs by over £250,000 a year, on top of the £3.19m reduction achieved in this area since 2014.
A report to the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, June 24, recommended that Members agree to revised directorate structures which would be implemented between August 1, 2021, and May 2022.
Following Cabinet’s agreement, the Council will now consult with the necessary stakeholders on the proposed changes and where necessary they will be presented for Council determination in July.
Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “Cabinet has agreed to consult upon proposals to restructure a number of Senior Management positions across Council Services, by engaging with affected staff and trade unions. If implemented by full council, these proposals would deliver a further reduction in senior management costs of over £250,000. Such a reduction would support our continued focus upon securing efficiency savings to support the wider delivery of services and investment in our priority areas.
“This prudent approach has enabled the Council to identify over £4.6m worth of efficiency savings in the Council’s 2021/22 Budget, which is on top of £6m savings in each of the previous three years. This approach has been undertaken without the need for service reductions and has enabled the Council to protect key services over recent years from public spending reductions.
“If the latest proposals for Senior Management changes are delivered, it would raise the overall reduction in management costs in this area to £3.44m over the past eight years – while continuing to provide effective corporate leadership of key service areas.”
