Aberdare Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care Virtual Fundraising raises over £1,800!

Over the past 12 months fundraising events have almost come to a complete stand still, but Tenovus Cancer Care’s volunteer fundraising group in Aberdare have adapted to the new ways of virtual fundraising, raising over £1,800 for the charity.

The volunteers have been busy organising online music events, supported by talented local musicians who have donated their time to record performances. The hugely successful videos have ranged from flutists to vocal duets. They have also arranged raffles, virtual bucket collections and have started a 100 Club.

The group is thrilled with all their success this year and would like to thank all their supporters. Carol Williams, Chairperson of Aberdare Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care, said: “We’re so grateful for everyone who has donated this year and supported our virtual events.  As a group we really did wonder what we could do to fundraise this year, but we knew we needed to do something to support as the charity’s income, which was so devastatingly impacted by Covid-19.

“We would normally be out and about in the community raising money and awareness in so many different ways from concerts to bucket collections. So, we had to think a bit differently and we’re thrilled with the response we’ve had so far. Thank you to everyone who has supported us.”

Ceri Hill, Regional Fundraising Manager at Tenovus Cancer Care, is so grateful for all of the hard work and support from Aberdare Friends of Tenovus, and said, “We’re delighted with the success of the Aberdare Friends virtual fundraising events.  The group have been dedicated to finding new ways to raise money in a virtual climate.  Since the beginning of the pandemic the charity has needed the support of people in communities more than ever and we’re so grateful for the work that they have done to help raise awareness and vital funds for Tenovus Cancer Care.”
