Rhondda Cynon Taf Council statement – school opening arrangements from January 6

Schools will be closed to learners on Monday and Tuesday, January 4-5, allowing for a period of forward planning and assessment of staffing levels.

On Wednesday, January 6, all schools will reopen for the new term. This will initially be with reduced numbers – for vulnerable learners and the children of critical workers attending only, with all other learners continuing with online or distance learning opportunities from Wednesday, January 6.

The Council will not be running childcare hubs during this time but all schools will be open for high priority vulnerable learners and for the children of eligible critical workers from January 6 onwards.

The expectation is that all schools will be providing face-to-face learning for the majority of their pupils from Monday, January 11 – leading into a full return by all pupils by Monday, January 18, at the latest.

Schools have already identified high priority vulnerable learners and will advise parents of their critical worker provision on January 4, 2021, unless they have already done so.
