Shadow Health Minister slams plans for ‘redesigning access’ to A & E services

“The Minister’s plans are not a bright new dawn for NHS Wales, but will lead to more of the same failures.”

That was the verdict of Shadow Health Minister for Health, Social Care, and Sport – Andrew RT Davies MS – on the announcement today (July 21) from the Health Minister about “redesigning access” to urgent and emergency care services in Wales.

Mr Davies said:

“The Minister says he wants to ‘redesign access’ to A & E and urgent health care in Wales but fails to understand that what we want to see – and what is needed – are more community-based services.

“Improving and enhancing community services will take away some of the pressure from hard-pressed A & E departments, and crucially, from hard-working frontline staff.

“What the Minister has outlined won’t go far enough to deal with the strains that years of Labour Party control of NHS Wales have endured. If he was hoping for a bright new dawn for our health services, then, unfortunately, it’s going to be more of the same failures we have seen for more than 20 years.”
