Welsh Government needs to get testing in care homes
Shadow Welsh Conservative Social Care Minister, Janet Finch-Saunders AM, has called on the Welsh Government to follow the UK Government’s announcement that all care home residents and staff who have suspected Covid19 symptoms will be tested.
Commenting, Janet said: “Nearly a third of care homes in Wales have confirmed or suspected Covid19 cases in them. Care homes hold some of the most vulnerable people in society, who in their later years, have given so much to our country, and regardless of their background deserve to spend the rest of their lives with dignity and respect. My heart goes out to the care home staff who care for their residents as their own family, who are putting themselves at risk to ensure their residents get the care they deserve and it is heart breaking to hear the stories of residents passing away.
“The Welsh Government needs to move swiftly to ensure that the care homes can access the spare capacity in the testing system that has become apparent this week, to end the ridiculous 15 tests per day for each local authority for social care and to continue to build capacity to ensure that care homes are not forgotten again.”
