A New Children’s Laureate for Wales
Literature Wales has launched a public call-out for a Welsh writer to become the first Children’s Laureate Wales for 2019-2021.
The Children’s Laureate Wales is a new post and will be delivered by Literature Wales. The company last week launched its new Strategic Plan (2019-2022) which outlines Children and Young people as one of its main priorities. The role of Children’s Laureate Wales will engage and inspire children through literature as well as being a national ambassador for Wales.
The post is for two years and is open to Wales-based writers. The Laureate will focus on making literature fun for children of all backgrounds and abilities, and will work alongside the Welsh-language children’s laureate, Bardd Plant Cymru.
Primarily working with children and young people between the ages of 5-13, the Children’s Laureate Wales will encourage creativity and self-expression, and be advocates for representation, equality and the well-being of the future generations of Wales.
Lleucu Siencyn, Chief Executive of Literature Wales said: “Children are natural storytellers and are curious and inquisitive about the world around them. We are excited to appoint a Children’s Laureate Wales who will inspire the younger generation to fall in love with the magic of words, and to give their voices and opinions on the issues that affect them and their generation the platform they deserve.”
Expressions of Interest are welcomed from writers across all literary forms, from poetry to prose, graphic novels and spoken word. Literature Wales expects the Children’s Laureate Wales to take up the post from September 2019.
Deadline: 12.00 noon on Thursday 11 July 2019.
