Christmas Events in RCT

The festive season is almost upon us and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is ensuring it can be celebrated in style once again this year with funding for each of Rhondda Cynon Taf’s town centres.

The Council is supporting Christmas events in Tonypandy, Porth, Mountain Ash, Ferndale, Treorchy and Aberdare, with each town centre also receiving funding for a Christmas Tree and festive lighting.

Attractions include Santa’s Grotto, Festive Funfair, Snow Globe, Reindeer, Christmas Market Stalls and much more.

The Council is also making a contribution to support Pontypridd town centre’s Christmas event, Christmas tree and lighting, which are organised by Pontypridd Town Council.

The festive fun around the County Borough can be found at events in:

  • Tonypandy – Saturday, November 24
  • Porth – Friday, November 30
  • Treorchy – Saturday, December 1
  • Mountain Ash – Saturday, December 1
  • Ferndale – Saturday, December 8
  • Aberdare – Saturday, December 8

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Deputy Leader, Councillor Maureen Webber, said: “The Christmas events provide fun for all the family as well as attracting people into our town centres.

“Last year our Christmas events brought thousands of visitors into our town centres, providing an additional boost to the local economy and an opportunity for each of our town centres to showcase what they have to offer.

“I am delighted that we are once again able to put on these fun and festive events for our residents and visitors, which support our town centres at this important time of the year.

“We all have a role to play in ensuring our town centres are busy, vibrant places, not only during the festive period by all year around – and the way to do this is to shop local.

“As a further incentive, shoppers will be able to park for FREE in Aberdare and Pontypridd town centres once again throughout December, with FREE parking all year round already in place in our other town centres.”

There will be a charge of £2 per child to visit Santa, which includes a gift at all the Council-run Christmas events. All monies raised at all Council-run events will go to the Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor’s Appeal.

Free Christmas Parking will be available after 10am in Council-owned car parks in Aberdare and Pontypridd from December 1 and throughout the month. Free parking is on offer in Council car parks in Mountain Ash, Tonypandy and Porth throughout the year.

Please note: Temporary road closures and diversions will be in place to allow these festive events to go ahead.
