Festive shoebox appeal for the elderly
PEOPLE who live in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) are being encouraged to donate shoeboxes full of items for elderly and vulnerable people being supported by a care provider in the area this festive season (November and December, 2018).
Abacare has launched its shoebox appeal, for the fourth year running, for its service users who may not be able to get outside to pick up essentials during the festive season.
Sarah Williams, Registered Manager at Abacare, which has offices in RCT, said: “It’s that time of year again when we ask the generous people of Wales to get behind our festive shoebox appeal. It has been extremely successful in the past, so we have decided to continue it again this year.
“We’re asking people to fill a shoebox with essentials and other bits and pieces that they think would really help brighten someone’s day. We would suggest hats, scarves, slippers, toiletries, books and something a bit more festive and fun for Christmas.
“All of the boxes donated will be evenly distributed among our elderly service users and we’re sure it will really help brighten their day.”
Any shoeboxes can be dropped off or sent to Abacare’s offices at Ty Cynon, Navigation Park, Abercynon, Rhondda Cynon Taf, CF45 4SN. The deadline for boxes to be sent is Friday, December 14.
Abacare operates a professional Care Management Team that is committed to providing high quality care to individuals in their own homes.
The large team of trained, specialist, care workers provide positive based outcomes and person centred care to people throughout Wales.
No experience is necessary to become a carer as Abacare offers free, full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) after the initial six months probationary period.
New recruits are given free uniforms, access to national staff discount scheme for all major brands as well as 28 days paid holiday, paid travel between calls and paid mileage.
Abacare is also offering FaceTime or Skype interviews to candidates in order to meet the demands of the modern jobseeker. Its view is that busy people wanting a career change can ‘meet’ management via FaceTime or similar applications and find out about the roles it has to offer, as well as meet a couple of team members and, if they are about, also say ‘hello’ to a carer too.
