Be Aware of Scams to Council Tax bills and rebates/refunds in Rhondda Cynon Taf

Residents are being urged to deal ONLY with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council DIRECT in relation to Council Tax bills and rebates/refunds.

The warning follows further reports of a suspected scam, in which residents are contacted by telephone by a third party company informing them they may be entitled to a refund on their Council Tax.

As the 2018/19 Council Tax bills begin to be posted out, the Council is once again reminding residents that if they are due a refund or a discount on their bills, its officers will make contact direct, by letter.

If you do receive an unsolicited phone call from a third party company – even if they claim they are calling on behalf of the Council – please do not give them any personal or banking information, or make payments to them for their services over the phone.

Please end the call immediately and report the matter to the Council who will pass details of the call to the Councils Trading Standards team to investigate.

If you have any questions or concerns about your Council Tax bills, the amount you are paying or if you are entitled to reductions or refunds, please contact the Council on 01443 425002 or visit www.rctcbc.gov.uk/CouncilTax .

Alternatively, if you want to talk to someone about this service telephone the number above.

Finally, if you have friends, family or neighbours who may be vulnerable to such a call, please pass this information on to them.
