Yonex Welsh International Championships 2017
About the Event
The Yonex Welsh International Badminton Championships is the premier event in the Badminton Wales calendar. Players from all over the world will compete for over 4 days of competition (from 29th Nov – 2nd Dec).
We are also running a Yonex Super Demo on the 28th November which will see Olympic, Commonwealth and European Medallists; Chris Langridge, Marcus Ellis, Lauren Smith and Sarah Walker coming to Cardiff to play in exhibition matches for Schools during the day and Members in the evening.
This year’s competition will see:
- 288 entries from 30 countries (including India, New Zealand and Pakistan as well as many European Countries) come to Cardiff to put their skills and abilities to the test.
- Numerous Welsh players entering their home event. Welsh no.1, Jordan Hart is in great shape having reached the Final of the Polish International in September and has a strong chance of landing a place on the podium.
Quote from Jordan Hart
Extremely excited about playing Welsh Open. My favourite tournament of the season by far! Really my only chance to play in front of friends and family, so it’s always a tournament I can’t wait to play. Last year I performed really well at the tournament and hope I can replicate and better my results from 2016. I’m really happy to be 3rd seed. That definitely means I have chances to progress far in the tournament as long as I keep the form I have been showing over the last few months. I hope that we have even more spectators at this year’s tournament as the support they give the Welsh players is always amazing and definitely helps with our performance
