Further delays to Heads of the Valleys project could spell “curtains” for regional businesses

Additional delays to Wales’ largest current road building scheme could mean ‘curtains’ for some regional businesses, according to the Welsh Conservatives.

The claims come as the Welsh Government announced a “comprehensive” review into the £220 million project to dual the eastern section of the A465 Heads of the Valleys.

Welsh Conservatives are disappointed that no formal statement has been issued to Assembly Members.

Shadow Economy Secretary, Russell George, said:

“Further delays to this scheme will be disastrous for local businesses, and could result in large additional costs to the public purse.

“Yet, despite the significance of this announcement, the Cabinet Secretary didn’t even issue a statement to Assembly members.

“We have spoken to firms who’ve been turned upside down by these delays already. For some, this could mean curtains.

“Sadly, this failure also raises further questions for the Transport Secretary, who appears to be juggling a number of plates in his portfolio – all of which now appear to be falling, one by one.”
