Fundraising Group Giving to Pink reaches £250,000
Today Cwm Taf University Health Board celebrates with Giving to Pink fundraising group for reaching the £250,000 target towards a specialist breast care unit at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant.
Giving to Pink fundraising group was set up exactly three years ago by former breast cancer patient and founder of Giving to Pink Clare Smart.
Clare was undergoing treatment at the time at Royal Glamorgan Hospital and was so impressed with the services and care she received that she made it her mission to raise money to improve the facilities for other patients.
Breast Cancer Awareness month is in October and Giving to Pink is delighted to announce that the group has reached its target of £250,000 which will go towards helping to furnish the centralised specialist breast care centre at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
Clare said: “In September 2014 I set a target of £10,000. Having raised £4,000 in the very first event ‘ladies lunch’ it soon became apparent that this was a cause that touched the hearts and minds of many people in South East Wales.
“It’s been an amazing three years with businesses, schools, councils and many other organisations supporting our fundraising. It has truly been a community achievement.
“On behalf of Giving to Pink I would like to thank everybody who has supported our fundraising campaign over the last three years. The support has been fantastic.
“A huge thanks must go to Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council as it was their ‘wear pink’ day for staff which raised the last £5,000 needed to push us over our £250,000 target.
“It is important to remember that Giving to Pink has been run on an entirely voluntary basis and that every pound raised has gone directly towards the specialist breast care unit at Cwm Taf University Health Board.”
Allison Williams, Chief Executive of Cwm Taf University Health Board, said: “I am delighted that Giving to Pink has reached their target of £250,000. Clare’s passion and commitment have been outstanding right from the beginning, even when she was still receiving treatment she maintained her enthusiasm.
“Clare and the Giving to Pink group have got the whole community of Cwm Taf involved in raising money and holding events which has been great to see”.
Councillor Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, added: “Many of us have either been personally affected by breast cancer or know someone who has and I am sure this is why our staff has fully embraced Giving to Pink and all that Clare has set out to achieve.
“The Council has been proud to support Giving to Pink’s fundraising efforts and I am delighted that the £250,000 target has been reached.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Clare and all involved with Giving to Pink for their achievement. The facility it will fund will be of huge benefit to breast cancer patients from our county borough and beyond.”
