Monk Street public conveniences re-open after refurbishment

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has completed the refurbishment of the Monk Street public conveniences in Aberdare town centre, which have now re-opened to members of the public.

The Council has recently invested in significant refurbishments of toilet facilities in Porth, Ton Pentre and Treherbert – and the Aberdare scheme is the fourth to be completed. The works at Monk Street were announced earlier this year as part of the wider investment of more than £50,000. The above photograph before refurbismemt.

The new-look Monk Street public conveniences include new baby changing facilities along with new bowls, seats, wash basins, hand driers and disabled toilet. The project also included the replacement of floors and wall rendering.

The investment also included new doors at the entrance of the facility secured via an automatic locking system, which can be operated remotely by the Council. The area will be regularly inspected by the Council’s Streetcare team to ensure it is maintained appropriately.

Councillor Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, said: “The Council’s investment in public conveniences has now seen four projects completed, and each one has improved the facilities for local residents and visitors to our communities.

“Over the last few years anti-social behaviour, and the abuse of our public conveniences, has been on the rise. I would urge residents to help the Council to look after these new facilities, and to report any incidents so that they can be dealt with immediately.

“I’d like to thank residents for their cooperation while the public conveniences have been closed for the refurbishment works to take place.”

The Monk Street facilities are open for six days a week. They will open from 9am to 5pm on Mondays and Saturdays, and 9am to 5.30pm from Tuesdays through to Fridays.
