Drop in sessions for Dementia Awareness Week
PEOPLE from Wales who would like more information on Dementia or have any questions regarding care can drop into a care provider’s offices next month (May, 2017) for free advice.
Abacare, which has offices in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT), is supporting Dementia Awareness Week, which takes place from May 14 until 20, and will have expert staff on hand on May 15 and 16 to answer any questions people might have.
Peter Angelides, CEO at Abacare, said: “Being faced with a friend or relative who may be showing signs of dementia can be scary and many people don’t know where to turn. If anyone has any concerns they are welcome to drop into our offices or give us a call for some expert advice from our team during Dementia Awareness Week.
“We’re also available to talk to anyone who might be interested in our services as we provide Domiciliary and live-in care for elderly and vulnerable people as well as those with dementia.”
Abacare staff will be on-hand on Monday, May 15 and Tuesday, May 16 between 10am and 3pm at its RCT office at Ty Cynon, Navigation Park, Abercynon, Rhondda Cynon Taf, CF45 4SN or people can call 01443 742645.
Dementia Awareness Week was started by the Alzheimer’s Society and encourages people who are worried about dementia to confront their worries by addressing dementia directly and getting information and support.
There are currently 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and the number is set to rise to one million by 2021.
Peter added: “We have a committed dementia team and we offer one-to-one bespoke support for people living with dementia so they do not need to leave their familiar surrounding or pets.
“A service user’s family, carers and the person with dementia (where possible) are always involved in developing a care plan based on person-centred care. Their knowledge and understanding of the person is extremely valuable to make sure the care plan is right for the individual.”
