20 New Books for Welsh Learners to be Published

The Welsh Books Council is very pleased to announce a tender for the publication of 20 leisure books aimed at adults learning Welsh. This is done in conjunction with the National Centre for Learning Welsh, the new organisation responsible for the Welsh for Adults education programme.

Five titles for each of the four levels in the Welsh for Adults programme will be published. The new books will coincide with the roll-out of new courses across Wales from September 2018 onwards. "For the first time in many years we will be able to invest purposefully in leisure reading for Welsh learners," said Helgard Krause, Chief Executive, Welsh Books Council. "This is a timely opportunity for Welsh publishers to produce a significant number of books for a new and enthusiastic audience." Efa Gruffudd Jones, Chief Executive of the National Centre for Learning Welsh said: "We’re looking forward very much to working with the Welsh Books Council to ensure a supply of books that will encourage learners to read Welsh early on in their language journey. "Around 15,000 people sign up for Welsh courses each year and we know there is a great call for new books among this important audience." It is expected that up to four publishers will undertake the work. The post of Consulting Editor will also be advertised to coordinate the project and edit the books to reflect the Centre’s new courses
