Abacare to put the kettle on for charity

WELSH folk interested in care can pop into a care provider’s offices for tea and a chat about working in the industry while also helping to raise money for charity as part of Dementia UK’s Make Time for a Cuppa event next month (March, 2017).

Abacare’s office in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) is supporting the event and raising funds on Tuesday, March 7 from 10am until 2pm.

Peter Angelides, CEO of the award-winning Abacare, said: “Last year some of our offices got involved with Dementia UK’s Make Time for a Cuppa event and it was such a success that we have decided to get involved once again.

“Our office in RCT will be providing tea and cakes in exchange for a small donation to the charity. Anyone who comes along can get chatting to our very friendly and helpful staff about working in the care industry and how a career in care could work for them.

“People can drop into our RCT office at Ty Cynon, Navigation Park, Abercynon, Rhondda Cynon Taf, CF45 4SN.”

Dementia UK offers specialist one-to-one support and expert advice for people living with dementia.

Its Admiral Nurses work hand in hand with families, helping them cope with the fear, uncertainty and difficult everyday reality of dementia.

The Time for a Cuppa 2017 event will raise vital money to help fund more Admiral Nurses to support families in local communities and to run the charity’s helpline, which is open seven days a week and is for anyone with questions or concerns about dementia.

Peter added: “We are always looking for kind and caring individuals to join the team so this could be the perfect opportunity for people to help raise some money for charity and find a new career. We hope lots of people pop in.

“No experience is necessary, just a willingness to care and to learn. Our company induction includes first aid, dementia awareness, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users. We will also pay carers while they are training with us and also pay for their DBS checks.

“There are lots of opportunities for internal advancement for all our team members who show commitment, reliability and true passion. We provide a great support network for all of our carers too. There is the potential for the right candidates to stay with us for the full 10 year contract and beyond.

“Anyone who joins us can reach QCF level 2, 3 and 5 with our support and we’re urging anyone thinking of changing their job, or getting back into the work force again, to get in touch as soon as possible and not to miss out on this fantastic career opportunity.”
