Penarth Literature Festival
The fifth Penarth Literature Festival will be held between the 2nd and 9th of October.
Several of the events this year promote Welsh literature. These are some of the highlights:
- Wednesday 5th October – Writing a Successful Short Story. Julie McGowan will be holding two writing workshops (one from 2 til 4.30 and the other from 7 til 9.30) covering the most important aspects of writing a successful short story. The workshop will be exercised based so that all attendees can take an active part.
- Wednesday 5th October – Great Battles of 1916. Two local historians, Jonathan Hicks and Phil Carradice, will discuss two of the great battles of that year – Mametz Wood and Jutland – and their significance in the overall course of the War.
- Thursday 6th October – Ffuglen Gymraeg Gyfoes / Contemporary Welsh Fiction. Lois Arnold, Llwyd Owen and Jon Gower will be discussing their work in an event suitable for Welsh speakers and learners.
- Saturday 8th October – The Actors' Crucible: An Alternative Portrait of Port Talbot. Angela V. John will talk about her latest book in which she explores what lies behind the success of Port Talbot's most renowned actors – Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins and Michael Sheen.
- Saturday 8th October – Poetry Reading – Tony Curtis. Tony will be reading from his latest collection at an event hosted by fellow poet Amy Wack.
