Maximising Treforest Industrial Estate’s Potential

The Council is working with partners to maximise the economic potential of Treforest Industrial Estate.

The estate has real potential to deliver significant economic benefit due to its prime location on the edge of Cardiff and in the heart of the South East Wales region.

As part of this work, and with the support of Welsh Government, the Council is consulting on a Local Development Order (LDO) for the estate.

The LDO works like a blanket planning permission for the estate and aims to make it as easy as possible for businesses to thrive, grow and to attract new investment and jobs.

Through ongoing discussions with the businesses and education establishments on the estate, the LDO has been developed to allow a wide range of projects to proceed without the need for planning permission.

Businesses will be able to quickly respond to market changes by expanding, extending and even constructing new buildings on vacant sites without the need for a planning application so long as they comply with the LDO.

The planning process will become cheaper, easier and quicker for businesses if they wish to improve, expand or locate on the estate, with just a quick and easy compliance process for building under the LDO so that existing businesses and nearby homes can be protected from genuinely unacceptable development.

Cllr Robert Bevan, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Planning, said: “We are committed to working innovatively to maximise regeneration, employment and enterprise in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

“Treforest is a key site which is already home to a range of thriving industries and we want to work with these businesses and put in place measures that make it easier for them to continue to expand, grow and respond effectively to demand.”

If you wish to comment on the proposed LDO, please write to Planning Services, Sardis House, Sardis Road, Pontypridd, CF3 1QA or email planningservices@rctcbc.gov.uk by Friday 12th February 2016.

A copy of the draft order and statement of the Local Planning Authority's reasons for making the order are available for inspection at Sardis House, Sardis Road, Pontypridd, CF3 1QA, Monday to Friday from 9am until 4pm, and published on the Council’s  website at www.rctcbc.gov.uk/planning (click on “Local Development Orders”).
