Carwyn’s NHS speech highlights Labour’s complacency on Welsh NHS

Welsh Conservatives have accused Labour’s First Minister of stunning “complacency”, as he prepares to deliver a speech defending his party’s record on the Welsh NHS.

Shadow Health Minister, Darren Millar, warned that the First Minister’s speech would do nothing to address “systemic problems” in the Welsh NHS.

The criticism comes as the First Minister prepares to address the NHS Confederation Conference today.

Shadow Health Minister, Darren Millar AM, said:

“The First Minister can deliver all of the speeches he likes, but complacency and self-congratulation will do nothing at all to solve the systemic problems in the Welsh NHS.

“Just last week we learnt that Welsh patients are enduring significantly longer waits in nearly all of the key categories for treatment and diagnosis than those in England.

“In fact under Carwyn Jones’ leadership, waiting lists have doubled; hospitals have been closed and downgraded; and NHS budgets have suffered record-breaking cuts.

“Frontline staff in the Welsh NHS work tirelessly to deliver the very best standards of care for Welsh patients, and they want to hear what action the First Minister is taking to put things right – instead, he appears to be in complete denial.”
