Compact Pledges To Fight Crime
The Police and Crime Commissioner, Mr Alun Michael, and South Wales Police have officially joined forces with the Voluntary and Community Sector, also known as the Third Sector, in a pledge to fight crime together.
A partnership agreement called a “Compact” was launched last Thursday 22 October 2015, at the Heronston Hotel, Bridgend, which outlined everyone’s commitment.
Mr Alun Michael, the South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner said,
“Working in partnership across different organisations is the best way to achieve our shared aims and objectives for making South Wales safe. The Compact is about recognising there is inequity in power and resources between a large public body such as the police and voluntary organisations including very small local community groups – and that to get the best out of our working relationships we need to adhere to agreed principles and values.
“The police are very ‘can do’ by nature but sometimes it is ‘we’ – South Wales Police – who need to sit down together with members of the Third Sector and find solutions together.”
Barbara Ranger, Assistant Director of Justice and Partnerships of South Wales Police said,
“We welcome the framework provided by the Compact and the opportunity it will bring to South Wales Police to sit down with Third Sector partners from across South Wales and across all the different aspects of policing and community safety – and look at how we can do business together better.
“Being involved in the development of the Compact has provided a real opportunity to work with individuals who are committed to their communities – as are all our officers and staff within South Wales Police. This will help us to have a deeper understanding of the different pressures we face and to look at how we can work together better as individuals and organisations towards common aims.”
The Compact will be signed by the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Chief Constable together with:
•Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations (BAVO)
•Neath Port Talbot Council for Voluntary Service
•Swansea Council for Voluntary Service
•Cardiff Third Sector Council (C3SC)
•Glamorgan Voluntary Services
•Interlink Rhondda Cynon Taff
•Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil
