Wales Bill will ‘clear murky waters’ of devolution

As the UK government prepares to publish today’s draft Wales Bill, the Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies, has welcomed its introduction and paid tribute to the work of the Secretary of State for Wales.

Mr Davies said:

“This is a hugely positive draft Bill that will clear the murky waters of Welsh devolution and deliver a stronger settlement that’s fit to stand the test of time.

“The current arrangements – introduced by Labour – have failed to provide a lasting resolution and I am confident that this Bill will solve those problems for good.

“Cross-party talks rightly led to the St David’s Day agreement this year and the tools have now been provided to get the job done.

“Conservatives in government continue to show a clear commitment to devolution and this settlement puts the needs of Welsh communities at its heart. Any suggestion otherwise is nothing more than dangerous political game-playing.

“For the sake of Wales, it’s absolutely crucial that Labour’s First Minister backs this draft Bill and acknowledges the hugely positive benefits it will bring.

“I applaud the hard work of the Secretary of State for Wales. Now it’s time for the Welsh Labour government to get on with the task in hand.

“The focus should now switch to how we use these powers and how we will improve the NHS, boost economic growth and ensure our children are getting the education they deserve.”
