Update on Upper Boat Road Works

As part of the wider £1.66M South Wales Metro project for improvements to Upper Boat Gyratory and funding from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s £5.89M Highways Investment Scheme, essential structural maintenance works have now began to the major bridge over the River Taf leading to the A473.

In order to carry out this work safely the following diversion will be in place for the next 6 weeks (w/c 14/09/15)

View the map of the diversion route

The diversionary route (6 weeks) will be in place for westbound traffic travelling towards Tonteg and the Church Village Bypass as well as east bound traffic heading towards the A470 from the Industrial Estate.

West Bound diversion – please proceed along the temporary one way system via Gwaelod y Garth Road, Taffs Mead Road and Severn Road before rejoining Tonteg Road (LEFT TURN ONLY) before continuing towards the Church Village Bypass/Tonteg roundabout.

East Bound diversion for industrial estate traffic – Traffic leaving Severn Road and wishing to travel eastbound to the A470 will be required to turn left (LEFT TURN ONLY) out of Severn Road (at Hutchins garage) onto Tonteg Road and continue towards the Church Village Bypass/Tonteg roundabout before rejoining Tonteg Road and proceeding towards the Upper Boat roundabout and the A470.

Motorists are advised to follow all traffic management in place and avoid seeking alternative routes via side roads which may be unsuitable and can add to delays.
