Time to secure real change on NHS recruitment
Commenting on the publication of a new NHS Wales Workforce Review, which found that “significant savings can be made by improving service efficiency, reducing agency spend, streamlining recruitment processes, improving staff utilisation through more effective use of rostering and reducing sickness absence”, Shadow Health Minister Darren Millar AM said:
“Welsh Labour's failure to plan for the NHS’ workforce needs has led to a crisis in some clinical disciplines and a shortage of nurses across Wales.
"This report further emphasises the need for systematic and long-term planning of the NHS, including action to improve recruitment and retention initiatives for frontline staff.
“Welsh Conservatives are clear – from establishing a joint performers list for clinicians between England and Wales to remove barriers to recruitment, to increasing doctor training places and changing training rotations so that North Wales doctors can do their training in North Wales and the North West of England, we will streamline recruitment processes and boost staff morale.
“Furthermore, by limiting pay-offs for senior staff in the Welsh NHS, and undertaking a wider review of senior manager pay, Welsh Conservatives stand ready to secure real change in our NHS, boosting public confidence and delivering a fairer deal for frontline staff.”
