RCT Good Citizen Awards

The inaugural Mayor’s Good Citizen Awards, held at the Park & Dare Theatre, celebrated those individuals who make a valuable contribution to their communities and to the lives of others.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Barry Stephens JP and his wife Barbara, presented the awards, which now become an annual event, with nominations coming from the public.

The ceremony was opened with a performance from Ysgol Gyfun Cymer Rhondda, with a solo performance from head girl Chloe Wilson, 18, who has just secured a place at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

The 2016 Mayor’s Good Citizen Awards were hosted by BBC Wales broadcaster and entertainer Frank Hennessy.

Mayor, Cllr Barry Stephens JP, said: “The Mayor’s Good Citizens Awards are all about giving recognition to the many residents I have met during my year of office.

“It also gives us the opportunity to recognise the sterling work of those nominated by other councillors and members of the public, who, on a daily basis, go out of their way to help their communities, charities or causes close to their hearts or who have achieved a remarkable achievement in a particular field.

“These individuals make such a positive difference, with no thought for personal gratification, and these Mayor’s Good Citizen Awards give us the chance to show each of the recipients just how much we value the contributions they make to our County Borough.”
