How Cwm Taf celebrated the NHS 70th Birthday!
There is no one who works in Cwm Taf who wouldn’t have seen some sort of activity taking place across our hospitals and facilities yesterday (July 5th) in celebration of the NHS’ 70th Birthday.
There were lots of celebrations throughout the week which were hugely varied. Some staff walked Offa’s Dyke as part of #Lenschallenge, we had Beatrix Potter’s character from the Royal Mint visiting our children’s wards with commemorative coins, cakes were made by our Central Production Unit and an afternoon tea was held on some of our wards throughout the Health Board.
Staff organised celebrations in their own areas and we had musicians performing on some of our wards. Some of our staff went the extra mile by arriving in fancy dress, with one member of staff coming as NHS founder Aneurin Bevan!
A live broadcast with BBC Radio Wales was held at Keir Hardie University Health Park as well as a vintage afternoon tea which the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Vaughan Gething attended. Alongside this local school children planted a time capsule containing letters and cards on why they want to work for the NHS. This was buried alongside one of the 70 trees that have been planted throughout the health board to commemorate the 70th birthday.
Our Chairman Professor Marcus Longley said: “It’s a lovely occasion to celebrate what the health service means and a huge celebration of the staff who are doing everything they can for our patients’ benefit.
“Our health service is fantastic and we should be really proud!”
Our Chief Executive Allison Williams said: “I’m very, very proud to be working in the NHS.
“The next generation is about the NHS and care and how we will be working together to wrap care around people. We are very much looking forward to the next 70 years.
“A huge thank you to everyone who helped make today so special.”
