Attempted break in on a property in Trecynon Aberdare

Following an attempted break in on a property in Trecynon during the early hours of Tuesday morning, we are warning residents to make sure that while they are away that their homes are safe from intruders.

While you are packing your suitcase for your summer break please remember to take a few precautions to reduce the chances of your property becoming a target for burglars.

There are ways to give your home the ‘lived in’ look whilst you are away so that any passing would-be thieves aren’t tempted. One way to make your home look occupied is by asking a trusted relative, neighbour or friend to collect mail, water plants and to park their car on your drive.

Please don’t leave curtains closed in the daytime as this shows the house is definitely empty! Use automatic timer switches to turn your lights on when it’s dark and don’t forget to double check that you’ve locked all external doors, windows or gates and set that burglar alarm before you head off. Another simple tip is to cut your lawn before you go if you get the chance.

Lastly have a great time on your well earned break – and don’t forget your passport and tickets!
