It’s the news all fun runners and elite racers have been waiting for, registration for the world-famous Nos Galan Road Races in Mountain Ash opens on Monday 14th September at 10am!
One of Wales’ most iconic sporting traditions, the Nos Galan Road Races celebrate the life and achievements of legendary Welsh runner Guto Nyth Brân. Founded in 1958, the event has become a unique New Year’s Eve spectacle, combining elite athletics, family fun and Welsh heritage. Each year, thousands of runners and spectators descend on Mountain Ash to be part of the celebrations, which have become a firm fixture in the Welsh sporting calendar.
As with previous years, race spaces will be released in stages to ensure as many people as possible have the opportunity to secure a place. So, lace up your trainers and take to the streets of Mountain Ash this New Year’s Eve for one of the most unique and celebrated events in Wales.
And with a freeze on entry fees for 2026 there’s even more reason to get involved! Entry for this year’s race start from as little at £8 (child ticket) inclusive of the booking fee.
Race spaces will be released as follows:
- Monday 14th September at 10am
- Monday 21st September at 12pm
- Monday 28th September at 4pm
Race categories on the evening are:
- Elite Men’s 5K

It’s a New Year’s Eve with a difference as spectators line the streets to cheer on the runners, marvel at the fireworks display and await the arrival of the famous Mystery Runner. The question on everyone’s lips is – who will it be in 2026?
The event gets underway with the children’s races before the much-anticipated arrival of the celebrity Mystery Runner carrying the Nos Galan Torch and igniting the beacon in the heart of the town. In 2025, Welsh football legend Jess Fishlock MBE carried the torch, joining an impressive list of previous guests including Gareth Thomas CBE, Professor Laura McAllister CBE, Linford Christie MBE, Nigel Owens MBE, Chris Coleman OBE and James Hook.
Following the arrival of the Mystery Runner, a spectacular fireworks display lights up the night sky before attention turns to the main events – the Fun Run and elite races. Whether you’re chasing a personal best, soaking up the atmosphere in fancy dress or cheering from the sidelines, Nos Galan offers an unforgettable evening for all ages.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of this historic Welsh tradition and help welcome the New Year in true Nos Galan style. Register online from Monday 14th September at 10am at www.nosgalan.co.uk.
Councillor Ann Crimmings, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Chair of the Nos Galan Road Races Committee, said: “Nos Galan is one of Wales’ most iconic sporting events and a proud tradition that brings communities together to celebrate our rich heritage while looking ahead to the New Year.
