Community is blooming at Tŷ Darran, with the launch of a new gardening project.
Tŷ Darran, a flagship later living scheme in Risca, was officially opened by Caerphilly County Borough Council in March 2026; with residents moving into their new homes soon after.
The Council’s Caerphilly Homes team worked with SCAPE, a public sector framework provider, to support the ‘Growing Together’ project. Through this support, the project has been able to purchase a range of gardening equipment and materials, including hand tools, watering cans, gloves, compost, seeds, bulbs and plants.
‘Growing Together’ offers residents the opportunity to get involved in regular gardening sessions, seasonal planting and harvesting, as well as sharing tips and ideas about growing, food and looking after the environment.
Cllr Shayne Cook, Caerphilly Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing, said “We’re really pleased to have secured the funding to get the gardening project started at Tŷ Darran.
As residents settle into their new homes, the garden will give them a chance to put down roots and create something together. We’re looking forward to seeing the garden, and the friendships around it, grow.”
Alison Ramsey, Senior Social Impact Manager at SCAPE, said “Creating lasting social value and helping communities thrive is at the heart of what we do at SCAPE. By bringing residents together to garden, learn and share experiences, the project will help strengthen community connections while supporting health and wellbeing at Tŷ Darran.”
