Aberdare man jailed for assaulting officers

A man from Aberdare has been jailed for assaulting officers following an arrest on the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Craig Williams, 40, from Aberdare, was sentenced on Monday, April 6, at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court to four weeks in prison. This sentence follows guilty pleas to two counts of assaulting an emergency working and one count of sending offensive communication.

On Friday, April 3, Williams rang 999. During the call he made threats to kill officers and was insulting the call handler. Officers then went to his address to arrest him. During this time Williams continued to call 999 making more threats.

When officers tried to arrest Williams, he spat at them. He was later arrested and taken into custody, where he showed no remorse for his actions.

PC Rebecca Guiver said:

“It’s never acceptable to be abusive to any member of our call handling team or towards officers, this conviction shows how serious we take these matters.

“Willams now has a small time behind bars to think about what he’s done.”
