Atkins wins Welsh project package

AtkinsRéalis has been appointed by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council to provide multi-disciplinary project services for the Cynon Gateway North Transit Corridor. The scheme is intended to boost connectivity and economic growth in the Cynon Valley.

The Cynon Gateway North Transit Corridor will be a 1.2km link road that connects the A4059 Aberdare Bypass to the newly completed A465 Heads of the Valleys Road. This will provide a north-south transportation link between Llwydcoed and Penywaun to boost connectivity and reduce congestion in the towns. The project forms part of the wider regional transportation strategy to improve connectivity across South Wales.

AtkinsRéalis will provide procurement support, cost estimating, project and commercial management, ecological management, and construction supervision over a five-year period, ensuring continuity throughout the project lifecycle from early phases through to completion.

Instrumental to AtkinsRéalis’ appointment was its highways expertise from major schemes including the Banwell Bypass and M5 Junction 10, complemented by a strong Welsh project portfolio including procurement strategy and risk profiling for Cardiff Cross Rail, project management for the A4119 Dualling and Tywyi Valley Active Travel route, as well as complex engineering design and delivery of Cardiff Canal Quarter.

AtkinsRéalis was appointed via the South East Wales Technical and Professional Services Framework.
