National Grid Electricity Distribution’s upgraded transformers and control systems at Aberdare substation will ensure homes and businesses continue to receive dependable power, while supporting future demand and economic growth.

The upgrade delivers quieter operation, resolves historic voltage issues, and allows National Grid’s engineers to monitor and manage the substation more efficiently, responding quickly to any issues and keeping the network running smoothly.
The project has supported the Welsh economy by sourcing materials from businesses in Merthyr and Cwmbran and using local expertise for lifting operations.
