Communities across the Cynon Valley will gather on 11 November to honour the brave men and women who served their country. Each year, more than thirty Remembrance events take place across Rhondda Cynon Taf as residents unite in solemn tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, a two-minute silence will be observed across the nation. In Aberdare, the Cenotaph in Victoria Square remains the focal point of the annual Remembrance Service and Parade, standing in proud memory of around 800 local servicemen who lost their lives during the First World War and all who have fallen in conflicts since.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council supports three principal civic parades in Aberdare, Pontypridd and Tonypandy, where veterans, serving personnel, cadets, dignitaries and community groups gather to pay their respects.
This year, Aberaman councillor and Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Cllr Sheryl Evans, continues to show her support for those who serve. As part of her mayoral duties, she recently visited Wales Air Ambulance, one of her chosen charities for the year, accompanied by her daughter. The Mayor praised the work of Christian and his team, noting the significant funding required annually to maintain this vital emergency service.

On Sunday, the Mayor attended the Remembrance Service at Abercwmboi Social Club, describing it as “an honour to attend such a moving service and to stand alongside former serviceman Michael Roach.” She thanked all veterans and serving personnel for their continued dedication and sacrifice.
The Cynon Valley’s commitment to remembrance reflects the deep respect held within the community for those who served. Through remembrance, their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten, and their legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
