Aberdare man sentenced for drug offences following collision incident

Luke Jones, 28, of Fairfield Close, Cwmbach, Aberdare, has been sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, including crack cocaine and heroin, as well as possession of Class B drugs, namely cannabis. The sentencing took place on October 23 at Merthyr Crown Court.

The case stems from an incident on the evening of August 3, when we were alerted to a collision involving the driver of a Vauxhall Tigra that had overturned through a fence in Llwydcoed. Witnesses reported seeing a man, later identified as Jones, attempting to flee the scene with blood on his face. Eyewitnesses noted him picking up small, white objects scattered on the ground, which were later confirmed to be drug wraps.

Officers, already patrolling the area, located Jones shortly after the collision outside a Chinese takeaway. Despite his claims of being injured from a bike accident, his erratic behaviour and conflicting stories raised suspicions. After he left the scene with a delivery driver, police conducted a search at Jones’s home, where they discovered further wraps of suspected drugs, cash amounting to £2,315, and drug paraphernalia.

The court has ordered the forfeiture of the seized cash, which will support local initiatives aimed at combating drug use and trafficking in the community. Additionally, Jones’s car has been destroyed.

We continue to advocate for community safety and the importance of reporting suspicious activities. This case underscores our commitment to tackling drug-related crime and protecting our communities.
