Welsh Homing Pigeon Union Raises £1,500 for Prostate Care at CTM UHB’s Royal Glamorgan Hospital

This summer, in a heartfelt show of dedication and community spirit, Gail Jones and members of the Welsh Homing Pigeon Union raised £1,500 in support of prostate care within the Urology service at Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

The donation, made to Cwm Taf Morgannwg NHS Charity, is the result of a year-long fundraising effort by Gail, supported by generous contributions from Union members throughout 2025.

Organising the Annual Charity of the Year initiative, Gail chose to support our Charity and the prostate care and urology service this year as it is a local cause that has supported many Union members. Members contributed to the cause through collections at events, and by generously topping up fees and prize pools.

The funds will be used to enhance prostate care for patients – supporting equipment, innovation and improvements to care that go beyond what NHS funding alone can provide.

Gail Jones said: “I’m truly grateful to my family, friends and fellow pigeon fanciers for helping me to raise £1,500 this year for prostate services at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. I can’t thank you enough for your support.”

Abe Sampson (Head of Charity and Income Generation) said: “We are so grateful to Gail and everyone at the Welsh Homing Pigeon Union for their continued kindness and generosity. Their dedication over the years has made a real difference to local NHS services, and this latest donation will directly benefit men receiving prostate care at Royal Glamorgan Hospital. It’s the kind of support that doesn’t just provide funding – it shows patients and staff that their care matters to the community around them.”

Cwm Taf Morgannwg NHS Charity supports NHS staff and patients across Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf, and Merthyr Tydfil by funding projects and services that go above and beyond what the NHS can provide.

Anyone can donate to their local Health Board team or service through our Charity JustGiving page.
