Is Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board removing palliative care from Ward 6, Ysbyty Cwm Cynon?

Taken from FB: It seems Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board have started the process of removing palliative care from Ward 6 Ysbyty Cwm Cynon and turning it into a general medical facility. Ward 6 is a small specialist unit providing the highest quality of care, compassion and dignity during the last and most frightening days and weeks of patients lives. This also extends the patients family and friends which is evidenced by the number of donations to the ward.

To lose this facility would be incredibly impactive on both patients and families. Patients requiring palliative care would be admitted to either the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant or the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend. There would be no local palliative care provision for the Merthyr and Cynon Valleys. Arguably even the upper Rhondda Valleys and Pontypridd would be affected. This surely cannot be right. This facility cannot be allowed to be removed. It is an erosion of local health care. I have personally seen the quality of care provided and believe this would be a huge loss to the local communities.
