Local company CBS The Screening House helped add extra sparkle to this year’s annual Ynysybwl Duck Race by sponsoring the children’s entertainment, featuring the much-loved local favourite Mr-T-Ricks the clown.
The Duck Race, held at The Rob earlier this month, was the main event, attracting around 150 villagers. Attendees enjoyed a lively afternoon of racing nearly 1,000 rubber ducks down the river. The event raised over £1,600, which will be used to help fund a range of other community events in Ynysybwl throughout the year, organised by the Ynysybwl Enterprise Programme.
Founded in Ynysybwl in 2005, CBS has long been committed to supporting local initiatives. This year’s sponsorship reflects the company’s ongoing dedication to giving back to the community that helped shape its own success.
“I’m from Ynysybwl, so I know how important these events are for the village,” said Rachel Bedgood, CBS CEO and Director at Ynysybwl Enterprise Programme. “We’re proud to sponsor Mr Tricks and help make sure the kids had something magical to enjoy on the day.”
Local favourite Mr. T. Ricks – one of Wales’ most popular children’s entertainers – kept younger visitors laughing all afternoon with his high-energy show full of comedy magic, clowning, balloon animals and audience participation. With nearly 30 years of experience entertaining audiences across Wales and beyond, his performance added a professional sparkle to the day and helped make the event memorable for families.
Community support is at the heart of CBS. The company, which employs over 20 people across the valleys, regularly contributes through sponsorships and volunteering. Later this summer, CBS team members will also volunteer at the Gwyl Ynysybwl Festival, expected to attract more than 1,000 visitors.
“Supporting and showing up for the community that shaped us has always been a priority,” Rachel added. “Sponsoring a clown might seem small, but if it brings a smile to a child’s face, that’s exactly why we do it.”
CBS operates from its South Wales headquarters, providing accessible, accredited, and ethical background screening solutions across the UK. Celebrating 20 years this year, Rachel Bedgood’s vision has grown CBS from a one-desk startup into one of the UK’s most respected DBS and pre-employment screening providers, trusted by organisations including G4S, the British Heart Foundation, and ITV.
