Shadow Education Cabinet Secretary, Natasha Asghar MS, has written to the leader of Bridgend County Borough Council requesting a copy of the PowerPoint presentation designed for 14-year-old pupils during their PHSE lessons, which included references to “sexual choking.”
Having already written to the Cabinet Secretary to call for intervention in this matter, Ms Asghar has followed up by contacting the leader of the council to ask for a review and copy of the content of the presentation created by ASSIA, a provider commissioned by Bridgend Council as part of the authority’s sex education materials for senior school pupils.
Commenting on the issue, Welsh Conservative Shadow Education Cabinet Secretary, Natasha Asghar MS, said:
“I remain appalled that anyone involved in educating our children would consider including references to such a dangerous and risky act in educational materials. There appears to have been no attempt to explain the risks associated with choking, but merely a focus on ensuring the act is consensual.
“The leadership of Bridgend Council claims they requested that this presentation be altered before being shown to pupils. However, this does not disguise the fact that those responsible for creating the content initially deemed it appropriate.
“I am requesting both versions of the presentation be made available to me, and I am calling on Bridgend Council to reconsider their relationship with ASSIA as a provider of sex education. It is clear that by even considering the inclusion of such shocking content, their values do not align with
