While the outpouring of community support in times of disaster is admirable, it is important to recognize that it should not be down to the goodwill of local residents to carry the burden of relief efforts. It is an embarrassment to be asking people to donate, especially when these challenges are the result of inadequate foresight and investment by authorities.

Council services have already been stretched to the bare minimum, despite rising council tax, and the lack of proper planning and preparedness from Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has left the community vulnerable. The responsibility for this situation lies with those in power, not with ordinary people who are already facing their own challenges.

It is unacceptable to expect residents to shoulder the cost of rebuilding lives when they are being let down by those entrusted with ensuring their safety and well-being. This is a systemic issue, and the focus should be on demanding better, more effective action from the institutions responsible for managing and preventing such disasters.

Our community has been devastated by the recent flooding caused by Storm Burt, leaving many families, businesses, and homes in need of urgent support.

We are coming together to raise funds to help those most affected by this disaster. Every donation will go directly to supporting local residents and businesses as they begin the difficult process of rebuilding their lives.

Pontypridd has always been a town that pulls together in tough times, and now is the time to show that incredible community spirit once again.
