Man who dealt drugs from car with baby on back seat jailed

A man who dealt drugs to children with a baby in the back seat of his car has been jailed.

Evan Sawdon, 26, of Magazine Street, Caerau, Maesteg, was caught red handed by officers from the Mid Glamorgan Organised Crime Unit on June 7.

They spotted him driving his grey Skoda and watched him pull into the Filco car park in Caerau, where he sold cocaine to a teenage boy.

Officers pounced seconds later and arrested them both. A woman and an infant were also in the car at the time.

Before he was arrested, Sawdon tried to smash two phones he was carrying but they were recovered.

During a search officers found cocaine and cash in a Gillet being worn by Sawdon.

They also found more than 22k in cash and 87 grams of cocaine with a street value of nearly £9k during a search of Sawdon’s home address.

A mobile phone seized from the 16 year-old boy contained evidence that Sawdon had arranged to sell the boy the cocaine using Snapchat.

Sawdon was charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine and cannabis, supplying cocaine, and also possessing criminal property (cash).

He pleaded guilty and was jailed for 33 months at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on Tuesday, November 19.

Sawdon was arrested as part of Operation Blasia which targets Class A drugs supply in the Caerau area.

The operation is backed by the National County Lines Coordination Centre Surge Funding.

Sergeant Lia jones, from the Mid Glamorgan Organised Crime Unit, said: “Evan Sawdon was responsible for the supply of a significant amount of drugs to people in the area, including children.

“His lack of regard for all those around him and also the community in which he lived has landed him a lengthy prison sentence which will now keep him away from all the things he took for granted and should have valued.”
