A debate to mark Eluned Morgan’s disastrous first 100 days as First Minister

In just 100 days as First Minister, NHS waiting lists are at a record high, increasing for the seventh consecutive month, unemployment rates continue to rise.

Next week (14th November), marks Eluned Morgan’s 100th day as First Minister of Wales, and what a disastrous 100 days it has been.

Wales having the highest economic inactivity rate, the Welsh Government’s 20,000 social homes target is set to be missed, whilst reports have shown that 1-in-5 children in Wales are leaving school functionally illiterate.

All whilst the Labour Government in Wales presses on with creating 36 new Senedd politicians in Cardiff Bay, and continue to slow Wales down with the default 20mph speed limit still being in place.

The people of Wales were promised a Welsh Government and UK Government working to deliver for the people of Wales, but Labour’s Autumn Budget has been the complete opposite. With Winter Fuel Payments scrapped for pensioners, agricultural property relief scrapped for farmers, and workers hit with an increase to national insurance contributions, Eluned Morgan has failed to stand up for the people of Wales spectacularly.

In the Senedd next week (13/11/24), the Welsh Conservatives are bringing forward a Senedd motion to mark Eluned Morgan’s 100 days as First Minister, highlighting that she has failed to stand up for the people of Wales and deliver the improvements that the people of Wales deserve.

Commenting ahead of the debate, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies MS, said:

“The paralysis in Welsh Government started with Vaughan Gething, but has continued under Eluned Morgan.

“The deep seated issues Labour have created in our economy, our education system and our NHS require fresh and urgent solutions, but in her first 100 days the First Minister has shown that she doesn’t have those solutions.

“And on big issues, like the unforgivable withdrawal of winter fuel payments, she has been unwilling to stand up for Wales to her London colleagues.

“The Welsh Conservatives will stand up for Wales and deliver on the people’s priorities.”

The motion which will be debated next week reads:

To propose that the Senedd:

Regrets that the First Minister has failed to stand up for Wales and deliver the improvements that the people of Wales deserve.

Notes that Thursday 14th November marks Eluned Morgan’s 100th day as First Minister of Wales.
