Local Community Rallies Together to Raise Funds for Primary School Playground
Caegarw Primary School, in the heart of Mountain Ash, has received a significant boost to its
fundraising efforts to invest in new climbing frame equipment, thanks to the support of a
local business T Samuels, and the community coming together.
With over 160 pupils, Caegarw Primary School has been at the heart of the local community
since it opened in 1896. Over time, its playground equipment had fallen into disrepair due to
age, and the school’s Headteacher, Huw Griffiths, called upon the local community to help.
The schools initial saving plan estimated a 5 Year Goal, with fundraising activities such as an
Easter Extravaganza and Choir Concert, which had already helped to raise over £5,000.
When local businessman Chris Roberts heard this, he approached the school with an
innovative project to help bolster community engagement and raise the remainder of the
funds to deliver the project earlier, with a new goal of 2025.
Purchasing a rundown local Property, T Samuel Estate Agents with the help of many
community partners intend to renovate and sell the property with all proceedings going
towards the school’s fundraising project. The project aims not only to bring people together
but also raise an additional £20,000 towards the school’s fundraising goal.
Headteacher Mr Huw Griffiths said: “This is a shining example of what makes our
community so special, when it comes to pulling together and supporting one another. We are
truly humbled and excited by this kind gesture from T Samuel Estate agents. It is an exciting
opportunity for our pupils and extended school community. Several generations of children
from our towns and villages will benefit from this project.”
Parent Governor, Gavin Allen provided further thanks: “The playground is about much more
than letting off steam during lunchtime, it’s a space where children can enjoy time with their
friends, make memories, as well as gain valuable exercise and development. Speeding up the
introduction of the climbing frame will absolutely have a positive impact on the young
children and families in our local community.”

The fundraising campaign has already received significant support from local businesses and
parents who have volunteered to help renovate the property and drive the projects success.
Their involvement underscores the strong ties between the school and the wider community.
The success of this campaign is testament to the power of collective action and the shared
belief in the importance of public school facilities. The project sets a blueprint for community
engagement that T Samuel hope to expand to future initiatives.
Chris Roberts added: “The idea for the project was inspired by my love of helping others and
the pride I have for my town. To be able to bring the community together and contribute to
such an incredible cause underlines our commitment to the local community in Mountain
Ash. We hope this will be the first of many similar projects and have been overwhelmed by
the kind offers from other local businesses and parents alike to support the project”

Caegarw Primary School in Mountain Ash has 161 pupils on roll. The catchment area covers
all of the towns and villages north of the river Cynon including Caegarw, Newtown
Cwmpennar and Cefnpennar.
