Letter to the Editor – Eye care crisis in Wales

For the attention of the Editor, sent on behalf of RNIB Cymru’s Director Ansley Workman:

Usually, during National Eye Health Week (23 – 29 of September) we encourage your readers to book their regular eye test and take small but vital steps to protect their vision.

But, this time, we have bigger concerns to share with them. Over 80,000 eye care patients at the highest risk of irreversible sight loss are waiting too long for their appointments here in Wales. Sadly, for many who do lose their sight, this could have been avoided if they had been seen on time. The amount of people now at risk of losing their sight would more than fill the Principality Stadium in Cardiff to capacity.

This is why RNIB Cymru is not only calling on the Welsh Government to listen to healthcare professionals and commit to real change in our eye care services. We’re also asking them to listen to the personal stories of people affected by this crisis.

If you would like to share your story or access advice and support during your eye care journey please get in touch by emailing RNIB Cymru on cymru@rnib.org.uk or by calling our helpline on 0303 123 9999.

Many Thanks,

Spread the love
