Reminder: A465 Traffic Management Alert Hirwaun / Trewaun  Friday 26 July from 20:00hrs until 06:00hrs on Monday 29 July 2024.

Reminder: A465 Traffic Management Alert Hirwaun / Trewaun  Friday 26 July from 20:00hrs until 06:00hrs on Monday 29 July 2024.

As part of the ongoing construction works the following weekend closure is required on the A465 between Hirwaun / Trewaun and Cefn Coed (Junction with A470 roundabout):

Friday 26 July from 20:00hrs until 06:00hrs on Monday 29 July 2024.

During this closure we will be moving A465 traffic into the new cutting that has been made at Hirwaun / Trewaun.

An official diversion will be in place at:  www.a465.org/HirwaunCefnDiversion

Please note: This will mean traffic will be travelling on what is the new permanent A465. However, initially it will be one lane of traffic in each direction and the speed limit will be 40mph. (once our works are complete the permanent speed limit will be 70mph). This is to ensure everyone’s safety as this is still a construction site and works will be taking place in the area.

Following the closure, the new Rhigos junction will be operational and there will no longer be access on and off the A465 at Trewaun.

We will then commence the work to open Brecon Road, Hirwaun, which will take around four weeks to complete. When the bridge opens, it will be available to traffic and pedestrians leading into and out of Hirwaun.

Once Brecon Road is open, Pentwyn Cynon Footbridge will be temporarily closed. This will allow the temporary ramp on the northside of the footbridge to be removed ahead of a new permanent ramp being constructed. Pedestrians will be diverted across the A465 using the footways on the new Trewaun East Bridge.

Work also needs to be undertaken to complete the final road between Trewaun West Bridge, Wind farm Road Bridge and the old A465. For a period of around three weeks this means that the old section of the A465 between Rhigos and Hirwaun will be closed in both directions.

During this closure local traffic will be diverted through Hirwaun. An increase in traffic through Hirwaun is to be anticipated during this short closure period, and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
