Grass cutting in Rhondda Cynon Taf
The Leader of the Council has today (June 2) made a statement in relation to grass cutting and biodiversity across the County Borough.
Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, said: “The Council is increasing its grass cutting and maintenance this week, where crews will be concentrating primarily on areas in and around our housing estates.
“I have received a number of queries from residents over the weekend and last week regarding grass maintenance on by-passes and communal land and I can confirm these areas – especially those with wild flowers – will mainly be left, where it is safe for us to do so. The Council will, however, be undertaking maintenance on some roundabouts and roadside locations where driver safety and visibility could be compromised.
“The Council has increased the number of areas left for biodiversity purposes over recent years in recognition of the positive effects on promoting local wildlife and improving air quality. The ongoing coronavirus emergency means that this will be expanded further this year, due mainly to the ongoing impact on the Council’s staff resources and the prioritisation of allocating the resources at our disposal to ensuring that frontline services can continue.
“Crews will continue undertaking grass maintenance on priority areas including sports pitches and playing fields so that they are fit for future use, and we are also maintaining our cemeteries. A further review of the Local Authority’s biodiversity programme will be undertaken at a later date this year with a view to potentially increasing the number of areas included in the current plan.”
