Drums For All! Theatr Brycheiniog’s Inclusive Drumming Sessions are Looking for Volunteers.

Initially established back in 2017 with Lynn Kay of Beat It Percussion, the Drumming Together dementia-friendly music making sessions were for older adults who were looking for something creative and social to get involved in. More than that the sessions also helped combat isolation and loneliness by bringing elderly people together to not only make music but also to chat and have fun.

After receiving funding earlier this year from the Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust the theatre is delighted that these sessions will be able to recommence in the New Year, under new name Drums For All, with fortnightly sessions held on Monday’s from 21 January.

In order to successfully run this project, Theatr Brycheiniog and Lynn are looking for a number of volunteers who are interested in working with them to deliver the sessions. There are two training sessions in January (Monday 7 & 14) that aim to train and prepare people to become volunteers at the sessions. The training will also be of interest to people who would like to find out how to use rhythm and percussion activities in their own work setting.

During the training sessions, participants will learn about the background and ethos of Beat It's work with older adults, be introduced to the instruments and participate in exercises used during the sessions, explore the volunteer role, practise leading a warm-up exercise and enjoy a drum circle activity.

If you are interested in joining these volunteer training sessions please contact the theatre on 01874 611622 or visit their website.
