Mountain Ash Cross Valley Link – public exhibition for traffic restrictions
The Council will host a public exhibition providing details of necessary traffic arrangements which will be required during the main construction phase of the Mountain Ash Cross Valley Link scheme – as well as the permanent Traffic Regulation Orders which will be in force when the project is complete.
The multi-million pound flagship project will see a 60-metre road bridge built from Cwm Cynon Industrial Estate to Miskin Road, providing a key link for traffic travelling between the A4059 and B4275. It is a long term-aspiration for the Council and local community, which is due to be completed in 2019/20.
Highway improvements have progressed at Cardiff Road, along with a major scheme to increase the capacity of the A4059/Cwm Cynon Industrial Estate junction – which has been widened, re-surfaced and line marked. New traffic lights have been installed and will be commissioned by the end of May 2018.
The following phase of the scheme will be the main construction of a two-way road bridge, over the river and railway line. Beginning in summer 2018, this phase of work will require significant traffic management arrangements in and around Miskin Road, so the major project can be carried out safely and efficiently.
Residents are welcome to view details of these traffic restrictions at a public exhibition, open to all, on Wednesday, May 23, at Miskin Baptist Church, from midday to 8pm. Council officers and representatives from the Contractor will be on hand to answer questions from members of the public.
The scheme has also been boosted financially this year, bringing the total funding allocated to date to £11.92m. This includes Welsh Government funding of £1.5m at the end of March 2018, and an additional £368,000 from the Welsh Government’s Local Transport Fund for 2018/19.
Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways, said: “The Mountain Ash Cross Valley Link scheme has progressed very well at the start of 2018, building on the momentum created in 2017 when the first works on site began. The Council has also secured almost £12m for the scheme, of which almost £5m can be attributed to the Welsh Government.
“Following the excellent progress to transform the A4059/Cwm Cynon Industrial Estate junction and the commissioning of the traffic lights later this month, attention will turn to the main construction phase of the scheme – which begins this summer. This will require traffic restrictions in and around Miskin Road, as a necessary measure to complete these major works safely.
“The Council is hosting a public event at Miskin Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 23, where details of the planned traffic restrictions will be displayed alongside the final Traffic Regulation Orders. I would recommend that local people who may be affected by these restrictions attend the exhibition to find out more.”
