Resilient Foster Care gets set for Santa Cycle ride in aid of Cynon Valley Pals
THEY won’t be going quite as far – or quite as fast – as the real Santa will be doing on his sleigh this Christmas Eve.
But a top team from new Valleys fostering agency Resilient Foster Care will be getting on their bikes () with the aim of giving a very special Christmas present of their own to the local charity, Cynon Valley Pals.
Resilient Foster Care provides foster placements for young people, for as long as they are needed, from across the South Wales Valleys area, including Bridgend, RCT, Merthyr, Caerphilly, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent.
‘We’re based in Abercynon and we work with young people and carers in the Cynon Valley, so our sponsored Santa Cycle this year is all about giving something back to our local community,’ said Nigel Fenlon, Registered Social Worker.
This is the fourth year that Nigel and his partner at Resilient, Hannah Rogers, have organised their own Santa Cycle which follows a 15 mile route from Pendeyrn to Abercynon.
‘Riding with us will be Resilient staff, Foster Carers, young people from Resilient Foster Care and their friends,’ said Nigel, ‘and we will finish at The Navigation in Abercynon where the landlord there, Nigel, has been kind enough to provide soup and sandwiches for us for free.’
Stevie Ingram, Chair of Cynon Valley Pals, said: ‘Cynon Valley Pals is a small charity that relies on the generosity and support of fundraisers to run. We are so grateful to Hannah and Nigel and all of the families at Resilient Foster Care for fundraising for us. The money raised will go towards running our holiday playschemes and activities with children with disabilities. We would like to wish everyone good luck for the Santa Cycle – we ho ho hope you enjoy it!'’
