Andrew RT Davies reacts to First Minister’s legislative announcement
The Welsh Labour leader, Carwyn Jones, has today set out his Government’s legislative priorities, which the Welsh Conservative leader has criticised as lacking in ambition and innovative thinking.
Andrew RT Davies said:
“The Welsh Government’s Additional Learning Needs Bill exemplifies its slap-dash approach to legislation. Ministerial bungling over its cost – the likes of which we’ve seen only too often – has significantly slowed down its passage through the Assembly, to the detriment of children all over Wales.
“The Labour administration’s record on local government reform is woeful. Their latest attempt to legislate towards this end is, I suspect, an effort to gerrymander through the back-door.
“The Public Health Bill is devoid of any focus to address issues such as obesity and air pollution, while it is now clear that their free childcare offer is very unlikely to be delivered owing to poor funding across the sector.
“We support the banning of letting agent fees, something towards which Wales is now playing catch-up with the rest of Britain – it’s high time the Welsh Government moved to protect tenants from additional costs.
“After nearly two decades of over-promising and under-delivering, I regret that the Welsh Government’s legislative programme lacks the ambition and innovative thinking needed to bring the necessary changes to Welsh health and prosperity.”
