St John Year 7 reach Cardiff Blues Champions of Champions Schools Final
Our Year 7 team beat off 50 other secondary schools to reach the Cardiff Blues Schools final. In qualifying, the boys beat Aberdare Community School, Mountain Ash, Rhydywaun, Cyfartha, Treorchy, and Builth Wells. This led us to play the best from Cardiff and the Vale. The final against Cowbridge was a fantastic game where unfortunately we lost 24-12. The boys put in a tremendous display in a tough sunny, hot and sapping afternoon. I’m sure that next year the boys can go 1 step further and win the competition if they maintain their positive attitude to school sport and training.
Well done on a fantastic year where the boys have become Cynon Valley Schools Champions, Monmouth Rugby 7s Champions, Cardiff Blues North Champions and Cardiff Blues Champions of Champions runners up. The boys are right up there as one of Wales best Year 7 rugby teams and I’m sure hope to emulate the current Year 9 rugby team who are also top 4 in Wales and had a great year themselves also becoming Cynon Valley School Champions, Monmouth Rugby 7s runners up, Solihull rugby 7s bronze medallists, Welsh Schools National Rugby League Champions and Welsh Schools Rugby Union Semi- Finalists.
